Institutionalized - The Story of Suicidal Tendencies┃Documentary
Suicidal Tendencies (often abbreviated as S.T. or SxTx) is a legendary American band from Venice, California, widely recognized as one of the "fathers of crossover thrash." Since their formation in 1980, they have evolved from a raw hardcore punk act into a complex musical entity that blends thrash metal, funk, and skate punk. Led by the charismatic and outspoken Mike Muir (the only constant member), the band is as much a cultural institution as it is a musical group, known for its iconic "Cyco" aesthetic, blue bandanas, and deep ties to Venice beach skate and gang culture.
Musical Evolution & Influence
The band's career is defined by three distinct eras of sound:
Hardcore & Skate Punk (Early 80s): Their 1983 self-titled debut is a punk classic. The track "Institutionalized" became an anthem for teenage alienation and was one of the first hardcore videos to receive heavy rotation on MTV.
The Crossover Era (Late 80s): With albums like Join the Army (1987) and How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today (1988), they integrated complex metal riffing and "shred" guitar solos (notably by Rocky George), helping bridge the gap between punks and metalheads.
Funk-Metal & Progression (90s): The addition of bassist Robert Trujillo (now of Metallica) brought a heavy funk influence, peaking with the gold-certified Lights... Camera... Revolution! (1990) and the melodic The Art of Rebellion (1992).

Took the kayak out to Lake elsinore to try and target some hybrid striped bass. They were initially hard to find, but I was able to eventually land two using the Berkley Flicker shad 7. Stoked to land a new species and get the kayak on the water.

4 monkeys in a room. In the center of the room is a tall pole with a bunch of bananas suspended from the top. One of the four monkeys scampers up the pole and grabs the bananas. Just as he does, he is hit with a torrent of cold water from an overhead shower. He runs like hell back down the pole without the bananas. Eventually, the other three try it with the same outcome. Finally, they just sit and don’t even try again. To hell with the damn bananas. But then, they remove one of the four monkeys and replace him with a new one. The new monkey enters the room, spots the bananas and decides to go for it. Just as he is about to scamper up the pole, the other three reach out and drag him back down. After a while, he gets the message. There is something wrong, bad or evil that happens if you go after those bananas. So, they kept replacing an existing monkey with a new one and each time, none of the new monkeys ever made it to the top. They each got the same message. Don’t climb that pole. None of them knew exactly why they shouldn’t climb the pole, they just knew not to. They all respected the well established precedent. EVEN AFTER THE SHOWER WAS REMOVED!

Candace: “chose to have us all watch Charlie Kirk’s execution” instead of “poisoning his drink” or “messing with his brakes” so they could “harness our emotions to get behind Erika.”
